PMETB Survey 2010
Northern Ireland leads the way
This year’s National Training Surveys are underway in the Northern Ireland. More than 3000 trainees and trainers collectively have been sent emails inviting them to take part in the online survey.
Northern Ireland is leading the UK in this year’s roll out of the surveys with the online reports expected to be available in June 2010; two months ahead of the rest of the UK.
Respondents involved in specialty, including GP and foundation training are encouraged to take 20 minutes to fill out the online survey.
Those who do not receive an email invitation should visit: www.pmetbtrainingsurveys.org
Results from the surveys will be used, together with other evidence - such as annual deanery reports - to quality assure training throughout the UK in all specialties, from foundation to completion.
Specifically, surveys outcomes can:
- Ensure training standards are being met
- Inform the development of future policy
- Identify concerns in training such as under-resourcing
- Help prepare for the future needs of training and trainees
- Highlight areas of notable practice
PMETB merges with the GMC in April; the surveys remain a valuable tool for capturing on-the-ground perspectives of training and will continue to run year on year under the GMC umbrella.
Dr Terry McMurray, Chief Executive of the Northern Ireland Deanery, recognises the important role the surveys play in the work PMETB does to improve training in the UK.
“The training surveys are one of the most important ways the Northern Ireland Deanery can measure the views of our trainers and trainees. The surveys reports are our way to hear your views on the training we deliver and see how this compares with the rest of the UK.
“However, the only way to capture an accurate snapshot of NIMDTA’s training is by ensuring we deliver a solid response rate. Make sure you contribute to this year’s surveys and help yourself, your colleagues and the deanery identify where improvements can be made.”
Up-to-date information about the surveys can be found on the surveys website at www.pmetbtrainingsurveys.org
