The Agency Board

The Board of the Agency was established in April 2004 and consists of 6 members as follows:

Dr Harry McGuigan

Dr Harry McGuigan
Dr Harry McGuigan is an Engineer whose early training was with (what is now) Bombardier-Shorts. He was an undergraduate and postgraduate student at Queen”’’s University, Belfast and taught at Queen”’’s, Aberdeen and Dundee. He was a founder member of Ulster Polytechnic in 1970 as Dean of Engineering and ended his career as Pro Vice Chancellor and Provost at the University of Ulster in 1996. 

He was Chairman of the Northern Health and Social Services Board (1985-89) and of United Hospitals Trust(1995–2003), and was appointed Chairman of the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency when it was established from 1 April 2004.

Mrs Judith Eve
Mrs Judith M Eve CBE Graduated from Queen”’’s University, Belfast with an LLB degree in 1971 and qualified as a Barrister-at-Law in 1973. Mrs Eve was employed by Queen”’’s University until 2002, firstly as a Legal Academic then as International Liaison Officer. She has served as a Mental Health Commissioner and as an Equal Opportunities Commissioner for Northern Ireland and as a non-executive Director of North and West Belfast Health and Social Services Trust.

Currently, she is a Chairperson of the Civil Service Commissioners for Northern Ireland, is a part-time Chairman of The Appeals Service Northern Ireland, and is a Board member of BIH Housing Association.

Mr Albert Baird
Born in Dublin, but Mr Albert Baird has lived in Northern Ireland for over 40 years.  He is a Mathematics Graduate (and Foundation Scholar in Mathematics of Dublin University (TCD).

He is an Associate of the Institute of Actuaries.

Prior to retirement, his career was in superannuation consultancy and associated employee benefit areas as Managing Director of Ulster Pension Trustees Ltd (the NI subsidiary of the Noble Lowndes Group).  Mr Baird is also on the Board of the sister company in Dublin. He has spent some time in New Zealand in the role of “company doctor” for several Noble Lowndes companies in that country. He is the former director of Sedgwick Noble Lowndes (NI) Ltd.

He is a Non-executive director of Down Lisburn Health & Social Services Trust from 1st September 1993 to 31 August 2001.

Chairman of the NI H&PSS Charities Common Investment Fund from 1st September 1995 to 31 March 2002.

He is a member of the Board of Directors (and former Chairman) of the Blind Centre for Northern Ireland (a non-profit voluntary body).

Mr Baird has been a Council Member of NICPMDE from 1 October 2002 to 31 March 2004.

Mrs Anna Eggert
Ms Anna Eggert M.A.; MITG; graduated from Essen University, FRG, in 1984 with the Staatsexamen and Teacher Training Certificate in English, Social Sciences and Pedagogy, and in 1993 she graduated from the University of Ulster with an M.A. in Marketing. She has set up the first managing agency for the Job Training Programme on the Falls Road in the mid 1980s, worked in community development and grant giving on the Shankill before establishing office for Training for Women Network (TWN Ltd) in the mid 1990s. From 1997 until 2003 she was Head of Operations with Community Fund’s Office for Northern Ireland. She has represented the grant giving sector on the Accountability Working Group of the Task Force on Resourcing the Voluntary and Community Sector in NI; has volunteered with many local charities and women’s organizations and was instrumentally involved in setting up Cranmore Integrated Primary School.

Dr Ronnie Atkinson
Dr Ronnie Atkinson trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and then in Medical Oncology.  His away training in Oncology was in Glasgow with Prof Kenneth Calman (now Sir Kenneth) and Dr Gordon McVie.

He was appointed Senior Lecturer in Medical Oncology in Belfast in 1980.  He is now semi-retired, still doing 3 sessions per week in the specialty.

He also has interests in Palliative Care (Hospice) and Medical Ethics (Vice Chairman of NIREC2).

Dr John Marley
Dr John Marley was an undergraduate at Queen’s University Belfast (1983-1988) and after working within the Dental School moved to Leeds University where he completed his PhD in 1993. He took up his post as Consultant & Senior Lecturer in Oral Surgery in 2000 at the School of Dentistry in Belfast. He was appointed Associate Head of School for Teaching in 2003.

As well as his appointment as a non-executive member of the Board of  the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency (2005) he is a member of the Surgical Advisory Committee (2004) which has responsibility for overseeing training in Oral Surgery. He also represents the Queens University of Belfast on the Central Dental Advisory Committee (2003) which acts in an advisory role to the Chief Dental Officer for Northern Ireland.
