Continuing Professional Development Allowance (CPDA)
The Continuing Professional Development Allowance has replaced the Postgraduate Education Allowance.
A General Dental Practitioner may claim the allowance by using the CPDA form. The maximum claimed in one year (1st April 2008 – 31st March 2009) is £1321.32. This is equivalent to six sessions at £220.22 per session. Claims may be made in half-session (£110.11) increments.

Mileage Allowance
A mileage allowance of £0.23 is payable (for the shortest practicable route between home and place visited). An additional £0.02 per mile may be claimed for carrying to the same course one named eligible dentist.Day Subsistence
For an absence of more than 5 hours, but not more than 10 hours claim £5.00. For more than 10 hours claim £15.00. Mileage and subsistence are only payable for Article 44 lectures and courses. These are indicated in the Postgraduate Calendar. The claim is made on the reverse of the CPDA form. General Dental Practitioners need to ensure that all claims can be substantiated. All receipts should be submitted with the claim form.
Abatement:
Part 4 of the CPDA claim form indicates to the Central Services Agency the NHS percentage of practitioner’s earnings. The CPDA allowance paid will be adjusted according to this percentage.General Dental Practitioners should make one claim on one form. Multiple claims on one form will not be processed. Claims should be made on an individual basis.
