  • GPT is a 2 year integrated longitudinal programme of training covering the three main career areas featured in training.
  • GPT gives the opportunity to develop clinical and generic skills in a supportive framework.
  • GPT is not a two year VT scheme.
  • It is not a year in practice and then an SHO post.

What is the format of GPT in Northern Ireland?

The format of the GPT scheme is:
  • 3 days per week in General Dental Practice which includes attendance at the day release study programme and protected study time with the appointed Trainer.
  • 2 days per week in a CDS/Hospital placement.

How many GPT places are available?

There will be 4 places available on an annual basis.
