Hospital Dentistry

Hospital Dentistry is a core part of the delivery of dental services and postgraduate training in Northern Ireland.  It operates over all acute hospitals in Northern Ireland with major bases in the Royal Group of Hospitals, Ulster Hospital, Dundonald and Altnagelvin Area Hospital in Londonderry.

 The School of Clinical Dentistry is based on the Royal Group of Hospital site in Belfast and is responsible for the majority of the undergraduate teaching programme.  All the specialities are represented on this site. 

Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery are also based at the Ulster Hospital, Dundonald and Altnagelvin Area Hospital in Londonderry and provide outreach clinics to a large geographical area including counties Sligo, Donegal and Cavan in the Republic of Ireland.

Hospital orthodontics is provided in the School of Clinical Dentistry, Craigavon Area Hospital, Altnagelvin Area Hospital and the Braid Valley Hospital in Ballymena and also provides outreach clinics to most of the acute hospitals in Northern Ireland.

Hospital paediatric dental services are based in the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children, providing outreach clinics to Craigavon Area Hospital and Ulster Hospital, Dundonald.

There is a strong regional Consultant led service in Special Care Dentistry based in the School of Clinical Dentistry but with a strong presence in the Belfast City Hospital (Regional Cancer Centre) and the 3 major hospitals outside Belfast.
