2010-2011 Vocational Training Recruitment - Trainers and Trainees

TRAINER RECRUITMENT

Are you enthusiastic about training and education?  Are you a supportive employer?  Could you commit to the development of a young dentist?  Why not share your skills and knowledge with a junior colleague and apply for a Trainer position on the Northern Ireland Vocational Training Schemes.  The closing date for applications  is Thursday 28 January 2010.

There are currently 36 places available.  The selection procedure for Trainers is a two stage process.  Stage one is to assess the suitability of the environment and a practice assessment will be carried out by a member of NIMDTA staff and another dentist trained in this area.  Following a satisfactory assessment* you will be invited to attend for interview.  Interviews will be held on 3/4/5 March 2010 in venues accross the Province.  Successful applicants must then attend a Meet the Trainer day where they will have the opportunity to meet with the selected Trainees.  The Meet the Trainer days will be held on Wednesday 10 March 2010.

NIMDTA welcomes additional funding made available to trainers commencing in August 2008.  In addition to the current Trainer grant of £9036, paid monthly, an additional £12,447 is obtainable per training year.

* Please note that practice assessments can be carried out before the closing date.  Please contact a member of the Dental Team to arrange your assessment now.  A practice assessment certificate will be awarded to satisfactory practices.  This is valid for two years.

TRAINEE RECRUITMENT

There will be 36 vocational training places in 3 VT schemes commencing in August 2008. The training places will be distributed throughout the province but one of the VT schemes will be dedicated to remote practices to offer extra support to those trainers and trainees.

The closing dates for applications for both VT or GPT is Thursday 7 January 2010. You may apply for both VT and GPT on one application form. Interviews for VT will be held on 25/26/27 January 2010 in Belfast. GPT is a separate process. For information on GPT please see the GPT pages on this site.

All applicants will be interviewed centrally by a NIMDTA selection panel. Trainees who are successful at interview are invited to attend a Meet the Trainer event where they will have the opportunity to meet suitably appointed Trainers who will mentor and appraise your progress throughout the training year.  This Meet the Trainer event will take place on  Wednesday 10 March 2010.  Both trainees and trainers will be required to complete a matching form listing preferences and NIMDTA will collate and match these.

The outcome of the matching process will be available on Monday 15 March 2010.  Trainee applicants must not visit training practices or contact prospective trainers. This will be regarded as canvassing, which is not permitted on the Northern Ireland schemes.

NIMDTA welcomes applications from students studying outside Northern Ireland, and the new selection and recruitment process should mean less travel for applicants and the opportunity to meet all trainers in a short period of time.

An information session on Vocational Training in Northern Ireland has been organised to take place on Tuesday 29 December 2009, in NIMDTA offices, 42 Beechill Road, Belfast at 10.30am. Please register your interest in attending this session.
