As well as an enjoyable day those who attend will be able to take away new ideas for teaching and training.

Workshop 2 - Leading Education
Facilitator – Dr Richard Mann

The workshop will be looking at how aspects of leadership engage our work as educators. Based on the principles that leadership is personal, situated and practised these themes will be developed during the workshop seeking to help each other connect more deeply with our own motivation for our work as educators, gain fresh insights into the organisation and culture through which we deliver education, and finally enhance our everyday educational practice.

The workshop will conclude by offering a platform for debate and action to help each participant move ahead with their work and to develop themes that will inform the work of NAPCE in representing us and the educators of the future.

Aims and Objectives
Scotland and Northern Ireland lead the 2010 Conference before handing over to Wales who will welcome us in 2011.

The main Conference theme is:
“Dealing with Difficulties – Creating Solutions”

There will also be a separate “Springboard group” for new TPDs and possibly a Balint group.

A common request from medical educators is for help dealing with difficulties, problems, or challenges. This can range from learners who are having difficulty or causing problems to the personal challenges of managing change or working with limited resources and imposed practice.

- If this rings bells then this conference is for you.
- If you are a new TPD this conference is for you.
- If you are interested in Balint group work this conference is for you.

Bring along the situations that are causing you difficulty and within small facilitated groups you will have an opportunity to explore solutions. Consider how difficulties and problems can be prevented or identified early. Although the course will be about finding solutions to your difficult situations the main aim is that you leave with a “Toolbox of methods for creating and providing solutions so that you leave with ideas for dealing with future difficulties.”
