Educational Consortium

Although there is now no requirement to attend 5 days of approved courses there is still a need for GPs to have a single reference source to find details of educational programmes. In response to this need NIMDTA has convened an Educational Consortium representing GPC, the health boards, the Clinical Governance Support Team, RCGP(NI), NISDA, Protected Learning Time Initiatives (eg SALT) and the pharmaceutical industry.

The aims of this Consortium are to avoid duplication of effort and coordinate provision, and to identify and respond to gaps in provision.

The Educational Consortium is in place to deliver Continuing Professional Development to General Practitioners through a range of providers, both local and regional.  This consortium is co-ordinated by NIMDTA.

The CPD needs of GPs are amassed from a variety of sources including:

  • Local and regional providers
  • Form 6A
  • Assessment Needs
  • GP Tutor network

In order to facilitate the speedy flow of information on which courses or events are being provided within Northern Ireland a simple system has been devised which will allow basic information to be entered by providers working directly in the website.

Providers who do not attend the Educational Consortium can contact roisin.moss@nimdta.gov.uk for information on how to add course details.
