Academic Foundation Recruitment

The UKFPO has published guidance for applicants to the 2012 Academic Foundation Programme (AFP) containing comprehensive details on both stages of this year’s application process plus a timeline showing key dates.

ACADEMIC FOUNDATION PROGRAMMES AUGUST 2012 - AUGUST 2014 

 Opportunities are available for 9 Foundation Academic programmes in the Northern Ireland Foundation School commencing August 2012.

Recruitment is in two stages:
1. Applicants must commence with a generic national application form between 1 and 10 June 2011.

2. Applicants must submit a SEPARATE application to the Northern Ireland Foundation School between Monday 6 and Wednesday 15 June 2011.  To download the application pack please click here

Please note that this application form cannot be submitted prior to enrolling on the national website and being allocated an RA number. 
The closing date is Wednesday 15 June 2011 at 12.00 noon.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview on Monday 27 June 2011.  Unfortunately, telephone or video interviews cannot be facilitated.  Shortlisted applicants are expected to attend interviews in person.

Academic Foundation Programme

The academic element within F2 placements is available with Queen’s University Belfast (QUB).  This will enable the holder to gain insights into clinical academic medicine through regular interactions with the academic clinical supervisors, scientific staff and postgraduate research students.  This placement is designed to develop knowledge, skills and aptitudes for academic medicine and to foster interest in a long-term clinical academic career.  The list below gives potential disciplines available which applicants allocated to a foundation programme with an academic element can choose from:

  • Paediatrics
  • Clinical Immunology
  • Diabetes and Metabolic Medicine
  • Haematology
  • ICU
  • Medical Education (Clinical Skills)
  • Oncology
  • Ophthalmology
  • Public Health
