Completion of Training
Completion of Foundation Year 1 - Full GMC Registration
All medical graduates in the UK must complete Foundation Year 1 before they can obtain full registration with the GMC.
Completion of Attainment of F1 Competency form (5.1) is required for all graduates to complete a ‘Certificate of Experience’ form from the GMC to obtain full registration. In order to assess suitability for full registration, F1 doctors in Northern Ireland must have satisfactorily completed the following:
- Satisfactory assessments (6 CbD, 6 Mini-CEX, TAB)
- For F1s who commenced August 2010 an F1 logbook must be submitted.
- Complete Personal Development Plan
- Updated shared log to reflect educational experiences
- Medicines governance certificate
- Hyponatraemia Certificate
- 12 months satisfactory completion of F1 with absence for aggregated period of no more than one month (four weeks)
- Completion of GMC Survey
Please ensure all documentation is collated in June for preparation for GMC sign off in July. This documentation must be confirmed on a summary of assessment evidence form. Please click here to download. Delay in providing documentation during July may result in failure to obtain full GMC registration by the F2 August start date.
The Northern Ireland Foundation School acts on behalf of Queen’s University School of Medicine to process GMC registrations. Applications are processed only for QUB graduates and non-UK graduates within the Northern Ireland Foundation School. Those who graduate from other UK medical schools require completion of documentation by their University’s GMC designee. This will require a counter-signature by Ms Carragher as Northern Ireland Foundation School Director. Non-QUB graduates should contact their medical school for guidance. Please see 2010 contact list GMC Full Registration contact list
Your original 5.1 form will be kept on file within the Northern Ireland Foundation School. If you would like a copy of this at a later date, please put a request in writing to foundation@nimdta.gov.uk. [back to top]
Completion of Foundation Year 2 - Foundation Achievement of Competency Document (FACD)

- Satisfactory assessments 6 DOPS, 6 CbD, 6 Mini-CEX, TAB)
- Satisfactory e-portfolio activity
- Complete Personal Development Plan
- Updated shared log to reflect educational experiences
