School of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
The scope of this specialty is increasing rapidly and now covers the whole field of Reproduction and its control, Perinatal Medicine, Feto-Placental-Maternal Relations, Genetics and Immunology. Gynaecology is concerned with the well being of the female reproductive organs and the ability to reproduce, and includes Endocrinology, Female Urology and Pelvic Malignancy. In Obstetrics as well as Gynaecology, there are increasing opportunities for significant Scientific and Clinical Research, which may lead to higher degrees.

ATSM’s
Obstetrics & Gynaecology is now so diverse that a series of ATSM’s have been designed to enhance the skills required by future Consultants. Trainees will be expected to complete a minimum of two ATSM’s during the two year period (ST6&7) and are asked to regularly check the ATSM page on the College website for the most up-to-date information. There have been a number of changes to ATSM’s that came into effect on 1st August 2011 and these are detailed here.
