Director of Postgraduate General Practice Education

Salary: Crump scale £106,826.50 plus seniority allowance

Commitment: 10 sessions

The purpose of this post is to undertake a portfolio of responsibilities, both within the General Practice Department and across the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency (NIMDTA) which will contribute to the formulation and delivery of NIMDTA’s corporate objectives.  These responsibilities will lie primarily within the General Practice Department to exert a strategic lead function, specifically but not solely in General Practice.  The post has a strategic leadership function in relation to regional and national educational and workforce initiatives and carries a significant research and development remit.  In addition, the post provides specialist advice at local, regional and national levels.  

 Essential Criteria:

  • Primary Medical Qualification
  • Registered on the GP Register with the GMC
  • Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of General Practitioners
  • Postgraduate qualification in medical education
  • Experience of the development, management and delivery of medical education
  • Experience in policy and strategic development
  • Experience of working between the healthcare and education interface
  • Evidence of a track-record in research / audit
  • Budget management experience

Vacancy Control Information

The Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency (NIMDTA) is affected by the Review of Public Administration and from 1 April 2008 will transfer to the new Health Authority.  The Agency, as with other organisations affected by the review is required by the DHSSPS to introduce vacancy control measures.  This means that all new and replacement posts have to be filled on a fixed term basis to 31 March 2008.

  

Appointment to Specialty Registrar Training Posts

NIMDTA is responsible for recruitment into Specialty Registrar Training.  Recruitment for August 2008 is via HPSS Jobs.

There are almost 600 trainees in the SpR grade, whose selection, placements and assessments are managed in conjunction with specialty training committees.  Membership is comprised of the Postgraduate Dean, Chairman, Training Programme Director, hospital representatives and a trainee representative.
