Trainer success at the Education Excellence Day

The annual Education Excellence day was held in La Mon Hotel on Friday 22nd June. An inspirational Keynote address was delivered  by Sir Nigel Hamilton (former Head of NI Civil Service) entitled “The further Shore is Reachable”.

Northern Ireland’s extremely high calibre  trainees received awards in a variety of categories, recognising many national and international successes. The 2017/2018 ADEPT Clinical Leadership Fellows each presented  an overview of the innovations and experiences from their host organisation. They have attended formal leadership training including mentoring and coaching which will stand them in good stead as future leaders in healthcare.

For the first time, awards were presented for Outstanding Achievement by Lead Educators and Trainers. Congratulations to Dr Sarah McKenna Training Programme Director for Medical Oncology, Dr Andrew Thompson Consultant Paediatrician, Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children and Dr Mary Malloy Consultant in Anaesthetics/Specialty Tutor on their very well deserved awards.

The Professional Support Unit gave an update on the VALUED strategy and the SUCCEED strategy was launched. We also heard from the  Foundation School Department, Western Trust, Belfast Trust and South Eastern Trusts about innovations in Post-Graduate Medical and Dental Education.

CCT is a  milestone in a doctors career and NIMDTA acknowledged this in the afternoon with a CCT Awards Ceremony conducted by Dr Michael McBride which concluded an inspirational day.
