Policy
Freedom of Information
The Freedom of Information Act came into effect on 1 January 2005. The Act gives the general right of access to all types of ‘recorded’ information held by public authorities, sets out exemptions from that right and places a number of obligations on public authorities. The Agency has two main responsibilities under the Act – the first is to produce and maintain a Publication Scheme (a guide to the information held by the Agency) and the second is to deal with requests for information. The Freedom of Information Act does not affect the right of individuals to confidentiality in accordance with Article 8 of the Human Rights Act (1998), the General Data Protection Regulation and common law. The Agency is committed to providing openness and transparency within the organisation whilst maintaining confidentiality.
