Annual Junior Doctors’ Prize Evening

Professor Keith Gardiner, Chief Executive / Postgraduate Dean, on behalf of NIMDTA, QUB and the Ulster Medical Society, invites you to attend the Annual Junior Doctors’ Prize Evening on 20 November 2014 which will be held in the North Lecture Theatre, MBC, QUB. 

This meeting will commence with a ‘finger buffet’ and poster presentation at 6pm

The poster presentation session will be followed by oral presentations commencing at 7.30pm

This is an excellent opportunity for doctors in training to present original work in the form of clinical, basic science and educational studies, quality improvement and clinical case reports. 

Submissions of original work are welcome from current NIMDTA trainees, doctors who have trained in NI during 2013-14 (whose submission is based on work undertaken during their training) and doctors in training elsewhere who are members of the Ulster Medical Society. 

Submissions must be sent on the below Abstract Form to lynda.boyd@hscni.net by 5pm on Friday 17 October

Submissions must be no longer than 200 words long and adhere to the structure Title, Introduction, Aims, Methods, Results, Discussion (for Basic Science, Clinical Research, Educational Studies and Quality Improvement) and to  the structure of Title, Introduction, Discussion (for Case Reports, Case Series). 

Trainees are required to confirm that their research or studies have not been published elsewhere. Trainees will be required to indicate that permission from the patient(s) has been obtained (Case reports/Case Series) and/or ethical permission for their study granted (where appropriate). 

Each abstract must indicate one category under which the submission will be considered.  The submission categories are Clinical Research, Basic Science Research, Studies in Medical Education, Quality Improvement/Patient Safety, or Case Report/Case Series.  The trainee must indicate whether they want their submission to be considered for oral presentation, poster presentation or both. 

Trainees will be notified of the outcome of their submission by Thursday 6 November 2014.  Instructions regarding duration of oral presentations and dimensions and orientation of posters will be provided to trainees who have had their abstracts accepted for oral or poster presentation. 

This is a fantastic opportunity which trainees are encouraged to take advantage of.
