NIMDTA is pleased to be able to offer Broad Based Training (BBT) as a new training programme in Northern Ireland commencing August 2019.
BBT offers trainees a firm foundation in four specialties with direct entry into year 2 of any of these four specialties and is ideal for those who want more time or wish for broader training before deciding on a career.
The programme includes 6 months in each of the following specialties:
- Internal Medicine Training
- General Practice
During each of the 4 attachments, 10% of training time is spent in one of the other three specialties.
The format of this programme allows trainees to gain both time and confidence in these specialties before having to progress to a further career choice, whilst still gaining GMC training recognition. The training provides an integrated approach across disciplines, and allows direct entry into the second year of training in any of the four specialties without further interview.
BBT will be available in all 5 Health and Social Care Trusts in Northern Ireland.
Applications for BBT will open on 7th November 2018 at 10am and should be made via the Recruitment portal Oriel https://www.oriel.nhs.uk
