SEDATION

NIMDTA Conscious Sedation Support Network (CSSN).

NIMDTA is aware of some of the challenges which can present for those who wish to undertake training to provide conscious sedation:

• Difficulty finding and engaging a local supervisor to facilitate completion of a portfolio
• Cost of supervisor support

There are online providers who offer sedation training, usually there are two course options:

• A full conscious sedation module including both intravenous and inhalation
• A stand alone in intravenous or inhalation sedation module

Training:

NIMDTA offer sedation update sessions and Dental Immediate Life Support courses. Please check out the NIMDTA Dental Courses, Events and Simulation Booking Platform for more information.

Supervisors:

NIMDTA have created a database of supervisors for those who have completed the course, are ready to embark on their portfolio of cases and require a Supervisor.

These supervisors have:

• Completed a recognised sedation course
• Delivered 50 Sedation cases over the preceding 2-year period
• STAC registration

Cost:

To complete your portfolio, supervisory support payment must be made directly to the supervisors. A fee of £76.62 per case has been agreed.  It is likely that you will arrange a block booking rather than carry out individual cases and this will assist in reducing cost of travel and out of practice.

Do you provide sedation and would you like to be involved?

If you are interested in becoming a NIMDTA CSSN Supervisor the requirements are:

• Completion of a recognised sedation course
• Delivery of 50 relevant sedation cases over the preceding 2-year period
• Sedation Training Accreditation Committee (STAC) registered (we can assist you to do this)
• Payment will be made at £76.62 per supervised case as agreed locally with the course delegate.
