Welcome To Northern Ireland on behalf of the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency (NIMDTA).

Continuing Education
For information in relation to Continuing Education in Northern Ireland, please visit our Continuing Education page.
Please contact dentalcourses.nimdta@hscni.net for further information on available NIMDTA CE Courses.
Simulation
Our Simulation Suite houses ten dental Simodont units.
This highly advanced haptic simulation equipment offers dental training in a virtual reality (VR) environment. The user can experience operating procedures on simulated 3D models. Extremely realistic haptic technology provides kinaesthetic communication to provide the user an opportunity to repeatedly practice various dental procedures with precision, whilst providing feedback on performance.
For more information on the Simulation Suite visit NIMDTA Simulation Suite
We are currently running a free induction session in the Simulation Suite from 10am – 12pm on the following dates:
- 8th August
- 12th September
If you wish to attend one of these sessions please email dental.nimdta@hscni.net
Practice placement
In conjunction with the Strategic Planning and Performance Group (SPPG), observation based placements have been sought in Dental practices within Northern Ireland. It is important to state that NIMDTA are acting as an intermediary only and are not responsible for any pre placement checks in relation to the observer that may be required by the dental practice before the observer enters into the dental practice environment.
All arrangements for the observation therefore are made locally between the participant and the Dental practice. NIMDTA accepts no responsibility or liability for the conduct or actions of the observer or dental practice. Please contact dental.nimdta@hscni.net in order to receive contact details for practices who have volunteered to participate in these placements. Please note that participants are to make contact with practices directly to make arrangements.
We would ask that evidence of Asylum Seeker or Refugee status is provided to NIMDTA in order to provide access to Continuing Education Courses, the Simulation Suite and Observation Placements. In order to access these opportunities it is expected that you will not be currently working as a dentist, but you will be actively working towards registering as a dentist with the General Dental Council.
You must provide to NIMDTA, dental.nimdta@hscni.net:
- A copy of your original dental qualification
- Evidence of your Asylum Seeker or Refugee status, including your ILR (Indefinite leave to remain.
