Dental Core Training

Dental Core Training Year 1 (DCT1) – (formerly known as Dental Foundation Year 2 or DF2)

The DCT1 posts are aimed at dentists who have completed Dental Foundation Training. These posts are an ideal opportunity for the aspiring dentist to gain further skills, knowledge and experience. Emphasis is on training and acquisition of skills in a supportive environment. There will be full clinical support and time to attend study days based on the MJDF/MFDS curriculum. DCT1 Posts – There will be a number of posts allocated to the following Trusts:-

  • Altnagelvin Area Hospital, Western Health and Social Care Trust – Oral Surgery
  • School of Dentistry – Belfast Health and Social Care Trust – Oral Surgery / Restorative and Special Care Dentistry / Orthodontics/Paediatric Dentistry
  • Ulster Hospital, Dundonald, South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust – Oral Surgery

Dental Core Training Year 2 (DCT2)

The DCT2 posts are for dentists who have completed a DCT1 (DF2/SHO) post and are interested in undertaking further training or pursuing a career as a Specialist . These posts are designed to develop an individual’s skills towards application to a specialist training pathway. DCT2 Posts – There will be a number of posts allocated to the following Trusts:-

  • Altnagelvin Area Hospital, Western Health and Social Care Trust – Oral Surgery
  • School of Dentistry – Belfast Health and Social Care Trust – Oral Surgery / Restorative Dentistry / Orthodontics/Paediatric Dentistry
  • Ulster Hospital, Dundonald, South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust – Oral Surgery

Professional Support Unit

At times you may be encouraged to speak to the PSU by your Educational Supervisor or Scheme Adviser. A further option would be self-referral if you would like to speak to a professional not directly involved in your training.

The PSU provides services aimed at both supporting trainees when there are concerns or difficulties during their training and providing development opportunities for all trainees.
