Combined Training

Please click herefor information about applying for Combined Training on the RCGP website.

The usual route for applying to Combined Training is to indicate your interest during your initial application to GP Specialty Training. However, at the Northern Ireland Deanery, we understand that some trainees may decide to pursue Combined Training after starting the programme.

If the RCGP supports a late expression of interest, NIMDTA GP Specialty Training will accept applications made within two weeks of commencing the training scheme. Expressions of interest submitted after this period will not be accepted.

CV Application Requirements

If you are applying for Combined Training outside of the recruitment process, you must submit your CV application to NIMDTA by the final day of the first month of training (i.e. 31st August or 28th February, depending on your start date).

Late CV applications will not be accepted.

Your CV must clearly include:

  • Specific dates of all posts (day, month, and year)
  • Whether each post was full-time or part-time
  • For part-time posts, the average number of hours worked per week

Next Steps After CV Submission

If your CV application is accepted, you will be invited to submit a formal application. This must be completed by the end of the second month of training (i.e. 30th September or 31st March).

This timeline ensures that your paperwork can be reviewed and submitted to the RCGP in time for your first ARCP, which takes place six months into the training programme.

If this process is not completed in time, we will not be able to offer a Combined Training post.

It is essential that applications follow this process to ensure appropriate educational support is in place within your training programme.
