We are delighted to offer a new CSRH specialty training programme in NI.

Community Sexual & Reproductive Health has been a standalone GMC Specialty since 2008 with national training programmes introduced in 2010 and is now a highly sought-after training opportunity. 

CSRH is a 6-year run-through training programme that leads to a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) with entry at ST1 level via a National Recruitment process. 

Community Sexual & Reproductive Health focuses on improving the sexual & reproductive health of individuals across their lifespan.

Access to high quality sexual & reproductive health care can have a profound impact on physical health, mental wellbeing, relationships and life opportunities, reducing health inequalities and supporting informed choices.

CSRH covers a wide variety of interests and skills across multidisciplinary areas including genitourinary medicine, complex contraception, abortion care, community gynaecology, leadership and public health. It combines clinical excellence, preventative medicine, education, leadership and advocacy. Details of local SRH services can be found here. 

The specialty is suited to those doctors who enjoy communication, teaching, continuity of care, developing a wide breadth of clinical and practical skills, public health, service improvement and leadership.

CSRH offers opportunities for research, audit and education, and flexible training.

Training in Northern Ireland

This new training programme will provide flexible, individualised training in all aspects of the specialty curriculum. It offers a unique training experience, and exposure to a broad range of clinical settings.

CSRH is a small specialty and NI has a wealth of excellent dedicated senior doctors who will contribute to training. CSRH is a supportive close-knit community nationally with a National induction programme, monthly national CSRH virtual teaching and networking. CSRH trainees also work alongside O&G and GUM trainees enhancing support systems and shared learning opportunities.  ARCP panels are held nationally by the College of Sexual & Reproductive Health and the Statutory Education Bodies. 

There are dedicated Consultant led specialist menopause clinics, complex contraception clinics with ultrasound scanning, integrated sexual health clinics, Sexual Assault Referral Centre, and medical and surgical abortion care.

Training locations will be mainly within Northern and Belfast HSC Trusts with some attachments in South Eastern HSC Trust.

How we can support you

Continuous Professional Development:  Continuous professional development is available in addition to the regional teaching programme.  This is delivered via the PDP4HST programme which covers the General Professional Capabilities (GPC) framework.  Information around other trainee opportunities including the Clinical Academic training, ENGAGE QI programme, ADEPT Leadership Fellowship and SUCCEED Education Fellows can be found here.

 

Less Than Full Time:  NIMDTA aims to make LTFT training available to as many eligible trainees as possible.  You can find out more about the LTFT policy here.

 

Professional Support & Wellbeing: Our Professional Support and Wellbeing Unit is dedicated to helping trainees fulfil their career potential.  The service includes one to one support, peer mentoring, personal coaching, careers support and exam support.  More information can be found here. 

 

Single Lead Employer: NIMDTA has adopted a Single Lead Employer (SLE) model of employment. This means rather than changing employer every time trainees rotate, they stay with the same employer throughout their training no matter where they are based.
