NIMDTA

NIMDTA was delighted to host its 2nd Simulation Symposium at the HSC Leadership Centre, Belfast on Thursday 30th May 2024.

The event was an opportunity for selected NIMDTA Simulation Champions for 2023/24, to showcase their projects developed over the last academic year. Members from the current ADEPT Clincial Leader Fellowship Programme and SUCCEED Fellowship Programme also presented simulation-based education projects during the event.

Professor Gerry Gormley, Clinical Professor in Simulation at Clinical Skills in the Centre for Medical Education and Dr Anita Smyth, Director for Hospital Specialty Training and Professional Development, NIMDTA were the invited judging panel, with the challenging task of selecting the Simulation Champion of Champions for 2023/24.

Dr Nicola Weatherup, NIMDTA Lead Educator for Simulation and Dr Bronagh McCarragher, NIMDTA Simulation ADEPT Fellow organised and chaired the event.  Both have provided supportive mentorship and practical guidance to develop the Simulation Champions and their projects throughout the year.

The event also provided Simulation Champions with the opportunity to network with invited guests, members of NIMDTA Senior Management Team and the Judges.

Winners:

The quality of presentations were do hogh at this years event that the judges decided to award a joint winning outcome!

Congratulation to both Miss Sarah Diab ST3, and Mr Andrew Blythe ST4 who will each be awarded an Amazon Voucher and Glass Trophy.

NIMDTA Postgraduate Dean and Director of Medical Education, Dr Camille Harron said, "It was a sheer delight to have the opportunity to hear presentations from our SIM Champions and celebrate the projects they are developing and delivering.  This event was a great example of the ongoing commitment of our trainees to improve patient care though advancement of education and training.

By coming together we were able to share learning, support further innovation and encourage our future educational leaders. I would like to thank all of our Sim Champions, Dr Weatherup, NIMDTA’s Simulation Lead, Dr McCarragher, NIMDTA’s Simulation ADEPT Fellow, Professor Gormley and Dr Smyth and all of my colleagues who contributed to the success of the event.”

NIMDTA will be releasing applications for new Simulation Champions for the 24/25 academic year late June 2024 (dates TBC).

Applications will be open for 3 Simulation Champion roles in each School for:

  • School of Medicine
  • School of Surgery

Applications are also open for 1 Simulation Champion role in each School within:

  • School of Obstetrics & Gynaecology
  • School of Psychiatry
  • School of Diagnostics
  • School of Anaesthetics
  • School of Paediatrics
  • School of Emergency Medicine

Important Update: Medical Training (Prioritisation) Act becomes law

The Government’s Medical Training (Prioritisation) Act has now been passed by Parliament and become law. The Act brings in new rules which prioritise UK medical graduates for foundation training and give preference to UK graduates and doctors with significant NHS experience for specialty training.

Specialty Training Offers for Posts commencing from August 2026
