NIMDTA
Success at first joint Dental Core Trainee & Foundation Dentist Study Day!

The NIMDTA Dental Team held its first joint Dental Core Trainee & Foundation Dentist Study Day on Tuesday 22nd October.

The study day provided an opportunity for dentists in training to meet and network with guest speakers. Presentations by experts on a range of areas including consent, managing patient phobia and anxiety, professional support and wellbeing, identifying common lesions and an update on radiology.

Guest speakers for the day were:

  • Caroline Lappin, Chief Dental Officer
  • Mr David Lauder, Dento-Legal Adviser
  • Dr Elnaz Aliakbari, Specialist Paediatric Dentist
  • Mr Mark McCarey, CEO, NIMDTA
  • Dr Mary Murnaghan, Professional Support Lead, NIMDTA
  • Dr Gemma McIntyre, Consultant Dermatologist
  • Orlagh McPolin, Dental Clinical Leadership Fellow

Postgraduate Dental Dean, Ms Brid Hendron, said

“The joint study day was an opportunity for both Foundation and Dental Core Trainees to network together while sharing a positive learning experience.

Trainees got to look in detail at the dental setting in the UK and how they can best ensure and demonstrate that valid consent has been gained. They also learned behaviour management techniques when managing patients with dental anxiety, treatment options for benign and malignant lesions and tested their skills interpreting radiographs.

I would like to thank our guest speakers who made the event so enjoyable, and we look forward to delivering many more joint sessions for our Trainees in the future”
