Work Shadowing

Work shadowing is available two weeks prior to your official start date for those who have never worked clinically in the UK before.

Work shadowing will provide the opportunity to orientate yourself within the hospital environment, get to know your new colleagues and become familiar with local healthcare processes prior to commencing on the rota.

All hours completed during the work shadowing period will be paid at basic rate, however exposure to out of hours working (evening or night shift) is encouraged.

Please note that all pre-employment checks must be fully completed before commencing work shadowing. These checks may take several weeks to complete so it is recommended that you arrive in Northern Ireland a minimum of 2 weeks before work shadowing commences.

This document is to be used as a guide throughout your shadowing period.

It is not an exhaustive or mandatory list and there is no expectation that all these areas will be completed.

Supervisor guidance is available to help support those who will be supervising you during your shadowing period.

If you feel that your supervisor is unaware of this guidance please share this document with them.

Please ensure to have your attendance sheet signed off at the end of each day.

Once the shadowing period is complete, submit your completed timesheet to the relevant contact within the trust for approval.
