Are you ST1 or above?
If so have you thought about becoming a peer mentor?
As a peer mentor you will have the opportunity to support a less experienced trainee through an informal mentoring relationship.
Mentoring also offers many benefits to the mentor:
Building leadership skills
• Improving communication skills
As a mentee may come from a different background or environment, the mentor / mentee may not “speak the same language.” This may force the mentor to find a way to communicate more effectively as they navigate their way through the mentoring relationship.
• Learning new perspectives
By working with someone less experienced and from a different background, the mentor can gain a fresh perspective on things and learn a new way of thinking – which can help in their work life as well as their personal life.
• Advancement of career
Refining leadership skills can strengthen their on-the-job performance. Showing that a mentor has helped others learn and grow is becoming more and more essential to advancement in today’s world.
• Gaining personal satisfaction
It can be very personally fulfilling to know that as a mentor you’ve directly contributed to someone’s growth and development. Seeing your mentee succeed as result of your input is a reward in itself.
