Please find below an important message from the Chief Medical Officer to all postgraduate trainees in NI concerning the responsibility all trainees have as doctors working in the Health and Social Services NI to protect patients by participating in the 2016 influenza vaccination programme which will commencing on 3 October 2016 in your employing Trust. The vaccination timetable for each Trust and an information leaflet for HSC workers also appears below.[wpfilebase tag=browser id=199 /]
In addition trainees who are working in an area where they are at high risk for encountering patients with influenza (or other serious infections spread by the airborne route) will require ‘fit testing’ to ensure a good fit for a personal protection mask. The Occupational Health Department in your employing Trust will be able to advise you if you need fit testing and how to get it, if it is required due to you working in a high risk area (e.g. Respiratory Unit, ICU, Emergency Medicine Department) or because you will encounter high risk situations (e.g. managing patients on non-invasive ventilation, carrying out cardiopulmonary resuscitation, bronchoscopy).
