Confidential 1:1 Support Meetings

Why?

The professional support unit (PSU) provides trainee doctors and dentists with short term solution focussed support if they are experiencing difficulties with progression in training. These may include:

  • Performance and progression e.g. communication skills, exam failure, management skills.
  • Behavioural issues e.g. confidence, leadership, motivation, team working.
  • Personal factors e.g. dealing with stress, bereavement, family concerns.
  • Environmental issues e.g. workload, bullying, difficulties with training programmes. This primary 1:1 meeting is essential to establish a plan for support and development which best meets the needs of the individual trainee. The meeting will provide an opportunity to discuss any issues, to raise any concerns you may have.

How?

The meeting will be arranged with you via email by our professional support team. These meetings usually take place at the NIMDTA venue.

Who?

This may depend on your situation and the complexity of the concerns.  Frequently if may be with our Associate Dean for Professional Support and Careers however it may also be with other members of our team. You will be provided with the name of the person you will be meeting in the email communications.

Occupational Health Services

Occupational Health plays a key role in ensuring the health and well-being of trainees in the workplace and we work collaboratively with each of the Trust Departments to ensure the provision of excellent support and assessment services. All referrals to these supportive services are discussed and agreed with each trainee on an individual basis.
