Deputy Director of Foundation School

Number of posts available: 1

Remuneration: 2 PAs for each post to be incorporated into job plan in agreement with the employing authority.

Tenure: Permanent

The successful applicant will be based at NIMDTA and will join a team of enthusiastic senior educators and managers and work in a leadership position across Northern Ireland.

As one of the Deputy Directors of the Foundation School they will assist the Foundation Director and the Postgraduate Medical Dean in ensuring that all Foundation training within NIMDTA meets the quality standards set by the GMC and the requirements of the UK Foundation Programme Curriculum.

They will work closely with educators and education management staff at NIMDTA and in Local Education Providers to promote excellence in postgraduate education by supporting continuous improvements in safe supervision, trainee engagement, quality of training and trainee experience. They will work closely with Directors of Medical Education and NIMDTA Educators to identify, highlight, share, spread and embed good practice in postgraduate medical education and training.

They will provide leadership for the Foundation Doctors Education Programme, with particular emphasis on: Foundation Curricular Delivery, Faculty Development, Recruitment and Assessment processes, Quality Improvement and Regional Generic Skills Teaching programme.

Clinical Facilitators

The Role of the Clinical Facilitator in Postgraduate Training

NIMDTA is recruiting Clinical Facilitators to deliver education and training programmes to Postgraduate Medical and Dental Trainees and Trainers.  In addition they will contribute to and lead educational events for doctors and dentists in training including Foundation and Specialty generic and professional skills modules. It is envisaged that the content of modules will be modified in response to advances in medical knowledge, regulatory changes and to evaluations. It is also envisaged that due to the current climate, this teaching will be taking place using online platforms.

Module topics include Human Factors, Simulation, Teamwork and Communication skills, Ethics and Breaking Bad News, Patient Safety, Advanced PowerPoint Presentation Skills and Teaching the Teacher.  

   Remuneration:

Medical rate:

Half day £225: Full day £450 – to include preparation and travel time

Non-medical rate:

Half day £140: Full day £280 – to include preparation and travel time

Clinical facilitators will also be eligible to claim travel costs.

 Tenure:  Up to 3 years in the first instance with a review at 12 months. There may be an option     to extend after 3 years. Continuation in this role is dependent on feedback and evaluation of the training and education delivered. 

 Commitment: A minimum of 4 half day workshops per year.

Director of Education/Postgraduate Medical Dean

Salary: Consultant/GP Educator scale & Management Allowance of £19,808 

Commitment: 10PAs (40 hours per week)

Tenure: Permanent 

The role of the Director of Education/Postgraduate Medical Dean is a complex and dynamic one. The successful candidate will be required to provide strategic leadership for postgraduate medical and dental education and training in Northern Ireland. The post holder will report to the Chief Executive and will be a member of the Senior Management Committee (SMC).

Applicants must have the presence, credibility and stature to lead postgraduate medical and dental education and training in a complex national environment and contribute to strategic leadership and development which impacts directly on the delivery of clinical care and patient safety.

Medical Director

Salary: Consultant/GP Educator scale (Management Allowance under consideration) 

Commitment: 5PAs (20 hours per week) 

Tenure: Permanent 

The role of Medical Director is a new role, as NIMDTA is becoming the Single Employer for Doctors and Dentists in Training on a phased basis from August 2019.  The post holder will report to the Chief Executive and will be a member of the Senior Management Committee (SMC).

The successful candidate will provide leadership for the promotion of the highest professional standards and for monitoring the performance, conduct and behaviour of Doctors and Dentists in postgraduate training programmes in Northern Ireland. He/she will also hold the role of Responsible Officer carrying responsibilities relating to the evaluation of the fitness to practise of every medical practitioner who has a prescribed connection to NIMDTA.
