Success for NIMDTA Trainees

Outstanding Success in European Board of Vascular Surgery Examinations for NIMDTA General Surgical trainee Mr Mark O’Donnell

Mr Mark O’Donnell, Specialist Registrar in General Surgery, recently sat the European Board Examinations in Vascular Surgery in Maastricht.  He was placed first at the examination out of 45 candidates of which he was the only trainee.  He has been awarded Honours for the Examination and has been invited to return as an examiner.  Mr O’Donnell is taking up the position of consultant in vascular surgery at the East Lancashire NHS Trust in August 2015.

BMJ award for NIMDTA Obstetrics and Gynaecology trainee Dr Mary McCauley

Dr Mary McCauley who is a NIMDTA Obstetrics and Gynaecology trainee is Out of Programme undertaking research at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.  Mary is part of the Centre for Maternal and Newborn Health team who have been declared winner in the Women’s Health Category of the 2015 BMJ Awards. Mary made a presentation to the judges in March 2015 and attended the Awards Ceremony with Professor Nynke van den Broek to receive the award.

NIMDTA Plastic Surgical trainee and Academic Clinical Lecturer Ms Sandra McAllister selected for Career Advancement Scheme

Ms Sandra McAllister who is a senior trainee in plastic surgery and an Academic Clinical Lecturer has been selected in the inaugural cohort of 20 female scientists from across the UK to take part in the SUSTAIN programme being run by the Academy of Medical Sciences.  This is a year-long programme of training, mentoring and peer networking around research designed to assist more women to achieve senior research positions

NIMDTA Cardiology trainee Dr Judith Tweedie appointed to the National Medical Director’s Clinical Fellow Scheme in England

Dr Judith Tweedie has been appointed as a Clinical Leadership Fellow in the English National Medical Director’s Clinical Fellow scheme and is going to be hosted by the Royal College of Physicians in London jointly with Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management. Judith will be taking up her one year fellowship on 24 August 2015.  We hope that Judith will be able to provide a link to the Clinical Leadership Fellows in NI (ADEPT). 

NIMDTA Obstetrics and Gynaecology trainee Dr Laura McLaughlin appointed as ADEPT Clinical Leadership Fellow

Dr Laura McLaughlin, a senior trainee in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, has recently been appointed as a Clinical Leadership Fellow in Northern Ireland. Laura is being sponsored jointly by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and NIMDTA and will be based at DHSSPS under the supervision of Dr Anne Kilgallen (Deputy Chief Medical Officer).   Laura will be working on developing a Quality Improvement Infrastructure for NI and on the DHSSPS response to the Donaldson Report.  Laura is a member of the inaugural cohort for the ADEPT Clinical Leadership Programme which commences on Wednesday 5 August 2015.
